May 2010; Please note that any group or individual student wishing to join the JSKA can do so through the JSKA UK or direct to Japan.
Within any country there can be more than one group belonging to the JSKA.
The JSKA UK is just one such group which is run my Sensei Stevan Harrison.
Below is a draft that I have been sending out to those asking about joining / remaining part of the JSKA.
I am happy for you to still be part of the JSKA through myself and the JSKA UK.
Anyone who was part of the JSKA GB is now no longer recognized by Japan as being part of the Japan shotokan karate Association.
Sensei Caruthers and Gidley resigned from the JSKA, thus all students, clubs who were registered through them were then deemed to have also left the JSKA.
Clubs who still wish to be part of the JSKA can do one of two things.
1. They can apply to join direct to Japan (fee applicable)
2. Join through one of the recognized clubs/associations already affiliated to Japan. (for which I am one)
Clubs joining direct should contact Japan direct. (mail@jska.jp)
clubs joining through me (JSKA UK) need only contact me, 0800 612 8439
Sensei Abe insists that all black belts within a club are registered and licensed with the JSKA. The licence book fee is 30 Euro and last for 5 years. This licence is not created in the UK and issued direct from sensei Abe. The JSKA UK holds a stock of licence books from Japan.
All kyu grades can also apply for a JSKA licence but don’t need to until they are 1st kyu doing Dan examination.
All JSKA examiners can only award JSKA grades and not any other type of grade. Any black belt graded Sandan and above may take examination for examiner. To be eligible you also need to pass instructor and judge status before you can take examiner status exam.
Individual members may also join the JSKA through me but can not advertise there clubs as being JSKA as they will individual members and not club members.
Individual members could advertise that they are a member of the JSKA UK / JSKA.
A club can't call its self JSKA if they have some of its members as JSKA and others as part of other associations.
So,
If you are happy to join and thus remain part of the JSKA or join for the first time please contact me. I am more than happy to meet face to face.
